TODAY’S VERSE: ROMANS 12:2 (NLT) Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.
REVELATION:
Is it really true, you are what you eat? Well, may be not physically but I can assure you, mentally?! Yes, you are most likely to become what you constantly feed your mind. I have heard it said “Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny”. We do tend to become what is on our minds.
I remember my years in High School and College my deep desires were to “rock the mic” and move the crowd, I wanted to be in the entertainment industry. My favorite show was YO! MTV RAPS. I couldn’t wait to watch it. English was my second language so, I really didn’t understand majority of the lyrics but it sounded cool! Sometimes I spent all day in my room, going between play button and rewind button on my tape player, trying to figure out the lyrics. I wrote them down, and practiced them. Looking back it is kind of embarrassing, with my accent *may be* I was more qualify to be a reggae singer than a rapper.
My favorite group was A Tribe Called Quest, I knew all their songs. While in College, I attended all their concerts whenever they were in town. I loved their style, they rapped over jazz beats. As, my English got better, I started understanding what was said in most lyrics. My love for rap increased, I listened from “happy clean” rap to gangster rap. Unfortunately, my love for rap was not the only thing that increased, but also my desires of living the life that was portrayed on the songs increased too. I didn’t just wanted to rap like they did, but I started having desires of acquiring what they had. Next thing you know clubbing and drinking was part of my life.
Now, hear me out, I am not saying rap music will lead you to clubbing and drinking, but I want to let you know, that is what lead me. When I was reading the text from today’s verse, I was truly reminded of above experience. The verse encourages us not to copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. We, often make decisions to please the world. We end up buying things that we can’t afford, wear clothes that don’t fit us, and even get surgery to change the way we look. We, go through all of that because society tells us we need to do that.
Dear reader, do you know your destiny? If not, take a moment and examine what is constantly in your mind, and I assure you, you will find your destiny. Copying the behavior and customs of this world, does not only lead you astray, but sadly it also create doubts about God and His ways. God has a plan and gifts that He has given each and everyone of us, but we will never discovered them if our minds are full of stuff of this world. We, ought to take time and seek God and His ways, it is only then we will know what He wants us to do and appreciate it. My desires of “rockin’ the mic” are long gone, I have new desires, I am confident they will lead me to a destiny that is beyond my wildest dreams. The first step that I took was to accept Jesus, into my life and that is the decision I am forever grateful that I made. If you haven’t invite Jesus into your life, I encourage you to do so today. All you have to do is confess with your mouth that “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that He died for your sins and that He was raised from the dead so that you can reach that destiny that has been designed perfectly for you.
PRAYER:
My Heavenly Father thank You for Your good, pleasing and perfect Will for my life. I pray, You will cultivate my desires to be inline with Your Will in my life. Help me to see my purpose in this world and fulfill it. In Jesus Precious Name, I pray. Amen.
APPLICATION:
It is a fact we tend to do what we see. I encourage you to observe what you watch on television, what you read on the magazine, what movies you watch, because all these things slowly by surely do determine your destiny.
