TODAY’S VERSE: ROMANS 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
REVELATION:
How long is eternity? In this fast pace world that we live in, time management seem to be one of most popular “sport” that most people engaged in daily. What time is it? I bet you, is the most frequently asked question in this world. I am one of those people who has too much awareness of time. When I am suffering, I don’t tend to ask why I am suffering, but I have a tendency to ask how long is this thing going to last? When I am having a good time, I am wishing that they would be no end time. So, as I was reading today’s verse I couldn’t help to ponder, the length of eternity.
The verse says the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. Well, we all know death means end of life. But, eternal life, how long really is eternity? How can we measure it? The best illustration that I have ever heard about length of eternity, was from Television program called Day of Discovery.
I was watching Day of Discovery and the topic was about Heaven. This program had few Bible teachers who talked about Heaven. It was a very good program, the one thing that really stuck to my heart and mind is an illustration that one of the Pastors gave about the length of eternity. His name was Pastor Erwin W. Lutzer, the author of “One Minute After You Die”. Here is what he said about eternity:
“Just think for a moment of how long eternity is? To help us, let us imagine, there is a bird that comes from another planet every million years and takes one small grain of sand and carries it away. One whole million years past and the bird comes and takes a second grain of sand. Think of how long it will take for the bird to take a hand full of sand away? Unbelievably long! But let us continue the analogy, let suppose the bird was to remove a whole mountain, and then whole mountain ranges of the world, and then the entire world! And here is what we need to understand, when that bird has finally removed this entire earth, eternity will hardly had begun. Mind boggling!”
It is mind boggling indeed. Dear reader, my prayers is that you understand that eternity is a long long long long long time! We all have sinned and as today’s verse clearly tells us, the payment of sin is death. Death is separation from God forever. Even though death is what we all deserve, God has given us a gift of eternal life through His Son Jesus Christ. It is this gift the Lord Jesus wants to give to you today. In the light of the quality of life you desire now and the quantity of time you will receive later, it is a gift worth receiving. All you have to do is confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that He died for your sins and was raised on the third day so that you can have eternal life. Open this gift today, tomorrow might be too late!
PRAYER:
My Heavenly Father thank You for Your compassionate heart. Thank You for offering me a gift of eternal life. I am sorry for all of my sins. I pray You will help me to grasp the importance of this gift that you have available for me and help me to live my life according to Your commands. God, from this day forward, I pray Your Will be done in my life. In Jesus’ Precious name, I pray. Amen.
APPLICATION:
Take time and meditate on how long is eternity. We tend to appreciate a gift more when we know the cost of it and when we know we can't get it by our own efforts. Gift of eternal life, you will never seek to accept it or appreciate it, until you fully grasp it.
