TODAY’S VERSE: 1 CORINTHIANS 13:13 (NLT) There are three things that will endure – faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love.
REVELATION:
What is the greatest thing in the world? No, it does not fly like a butterfly and sting like a bee, and no it is not Cassius Clay. There are three things that stabilizes us when our “get up and go” has gotten up and gone. Today’s verse reveals those three things to be faith, hope and love. In addition, the verse tells us the greatest of these is love. At first when I read the verse, to be quite honest I thought all were equally great, I couldn’t see why love was the greatest than faith and hope and vise versa. After meditating on this verse, here is how I came to agreement with the verse. First, let’s take a closer look at what these three things entail:
First, faith; the best definition I found of faith is in the Bible in the book of Hebrews 11:1 it says, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Second, hope; hope means anticipation of something good. And last but not least Love; what is love? In 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 it says, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
In analyzing what the Bible says about faith, hope and love, I have realized that faith and hope can be practiced solo. You don’t need anybody else to have faith and hope, at least not at all times. But love, requires involvement of another being at all times. As we look at the requirements of love above, you will see that you can’t practice patient alone, you can’t be kind without having a person to be kind to. You get the picture? Love brings people together as it was meant to be.
Love is the greatest thing in the world. Regardless of your financial status, poor or rich we all need to be loved and to love. It is embedded in us to long for it and to give it to others. We all have experienced love in our lives, from our parents, our spouses, our friends etc. I must admit though, there is no love that can compare to the love that Jesus has for me. When discovered no mind can conceive. I mean, He left the splendor of heaven, knowing His destiny to be the lonely hill of Golgotha, and there to lay down His life for me.
Why did He die for me? Would it not have been better had He loved someone that would serve Him better? Someone more truthful, more obedient to His command, more bright, more genuine, more upright, more pure but He loved me even thought I wasn’t any of those things. Every time I think of this, I get emotional.
Dear reader, I just want to remind you that Jesus died for you as well. Why? Simply because of Love that He has for you. When you discover Christ's Love for you, then that same Love will be reflected in your daily walk. Let us desire to know Him better. I, pray for His love to reside in our hearts and may we in turn display that love to our fellow man. If you have not receive Christ as your Savior, I encourage you to confess with your mouth that He is Lord and to believe in your heart that He died for your sins and raised on the third day so that you can be saved and experience the greatest thing in the world – LOVE!
PRAYER:
My Heavenly Father thank You for Your immeasurable Love. I, pray that You help me to recognize the Love that You have for me and to guide me to extend that same Love to everybody and to You. In Jesus’ Precious name, I pray. Amen.
